Research summary on the veterinary program at CSU Todos Santos
The CSU College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) program started working in Todos Santos around 2014. The veterinary program is focused on public health and helping the human community stay safe through improving animal health. An important part of that is working with local veterinary spay/neuter programs and nonprofit organizations to help control the overpopulation of dogs and cats. Fourth year veterinary students, months from graduation, who have completed and passed their national boards examinations help us in doing free surgeries for the public.
The veterinary college also has a livestock specific course founded in 2019 that brings together veterinary students from the US and Mexico to learn about livestock husbandry and consulting in a bilingual and bicultural setting.
As we started the programs, the veterinary team at CSU Todos Santos wanted to know more about the health of animals in this region, so that we could gradually begin to share that information which may allow for improved and informed treatment plans.
The veterinary program has partnered with local research colleagues to conduct various research studies about the health of animals in the region.
