I began taking English classes at the CSU Todos Santos Center in June 2024 after hearing about the program from several of my co-workers who are also students here. Before this, my only experience with English was in middle and high school, where classes were very basic and repetitive.
Since joining the program, I’ve noticed a big difference in my ability to understand English speakers, which is especially helpful because I live in an area where many people speak English. It’s also helped me feel more confident when I need to talk with customers at work. Now, I can hold conversations with more people, and I’m hopeful that learning the language properly will open the door to better job opportunities.
Listening to correct pronunciation in class has helped me a lot, and I feel less afraid to speak English. I’ve also enjoyed getting to know more people—the environment is always respectful and friendly, and I feel safe participating.
One of my favorite experiences was a special class with adult visitors where we practiced speaking both English and Spanish. They were patient with us and took the time to explain anything we didn’t understand. That kind of interaction made a big impact on me. Through these classes, I’ve learned more about how English speakers express themselves and the specific phrases they use in different situations.
My goal is to find a better-paying job where I can use my English skills, and I absolutely recommend this program to others. It builds confidence, creates a warm and respectful learning space, and motivates me to keep learning and growing—both personally and professionally.
